Chemistry 3D Structures - How to Create Your Own Model

Chemistry 3D Structures - How to Create Your Own ModelYou have a good understanding of how to make a model airplane by using a simple woodworking plan or drawing, but you need help creating the final model. The trouble is that most plans are very detailed and detail oriented, and do not address the difficulties that new modelers face. In this article I will share with you a few tips that can help you make your model and not look like an amateur, even though it is modeled after something that is easy to do.To begin with, I suggest that you learn how to draw out a model so that you can duplicate the design or original. Most modelers use a CAD program to help them create their designs. A CAD program is simply a computer program that converts the mechanical drawings into a three dimensional format and to show a blueprint that can be more easily understood. A little knowledge of CAD should be able to assist you in learning how to draw out your model. If you study how to draw, you will unde rstand the different material you can use to make your model. Two of the best materials are wood and plastic. Wood is good because it has two advantages over plastic, it is not brittle and is very strong, and it can be cut into any shape you want. Plastic is not as strong as wood but is also durable and strong enough to withstand many impact tests. Plastic also looks really good and it will last longer than wood. For the sake of making your model safe for handling and viewing, you may want to use the Meshmixer software which allows you to see the model at different perspectives in the multiple view mode. This feature is very useful especially if you want to see the structure from above or underneath. It is a good idea to take a look at other models before you decide on the final shape of your model.Make sure that you work with plenty of laminating tape, and never use ordinary paper towels. Instead of paper towels, get the durable type that is a little thicker than paper towels and us e these to tape the layers together. Make sure that all surfaces are free of debris that may mar the surface of your model. Once the surface is clean, sand the surface with 400 grit sandpaper and then dry with some paper towels. Also, sanding is important to prevent warping, as it can happen with the friction of two sheets of paper, or the friction of two layers of mitered plastic, or the friction of two layers of wire. You should also avoid placing laminating tape over a part that is already lubed up, as the paste can make the parts move around and break. You should always inspect any laminating tape before you use it and discard the tape that does not fit. There are a lot of laminating tapes available, but I strongly recommend the Hyfrecke Plop Staple Tape because it is super strong and thin, and it adheres better than most. You should also make sure that the model is level and is on level ground. Sometimes, it is the little imperfections that can ruin the image. You may want to tak e the model to an artist to have it painted and have it drawn so that the structure is drawn precisely to scale, and then measured so that it fits the surface correctly. You may also want to have the model mounted to a wooden base so that it doesn't move when you build it.Finally, you need to know how to manage the details of your model to make it look appealing to anyone who sees it, and to make it resemble a real structure as closely as possible. Chemistry is a great subject to base a model on and understanding how to create a 3D structure, or a model airplane is a great skill to have.

How to Communicate With Teaching Staff in College

How to Communicate With Teaching Staff in College Communicating with Teaching Staff in College: 6 Tips When students are in high school, they can talk with their teacher Monday through Friday during the QA class period or lunch or free block. Additionally, for the most part, teachers are available through email and have a relatively quick turnaround time for communication. However, once students start college, there will be a totally different system of communication. Some professors have several hundred students in a lecture class, and they may have 200 emails a day from students that they dont have time to answer thoroughly. Whether a student is attempting to reach the professor through an online communication system, directly during office hours, or through a teaching assistant, there are good and bad ways to communicate with the teaching staff at the university level. 1. Time is valuable Its important for students to give professors plenty of time to get back to them if they have an important question. Talking with a professor about an exam or assignment the night before it’s due is probably pointless. Rather, students should allow at least three business days for a professor to get back to them on a basic question or as much time as possible if its something important regarding an exam. For the most part, its better to chat after class or during class time if allowed (READ: Going off to college: 5 things to do this August). 2. Clear and concise questions Professors are asked a lot of questions throughout the term that they may have already answered. As a result, it’s better to keep questions clear and concise and make sure they are pertinent to the current assignment or exam. Students should also check to see if these questions have already been answered in the syllabus or the online communication system set up for the course. 3. Email turnaround time Email turnaround time is different in college than in high school. Although high school teachers receive a lot of questions from students and parents, they dont have hundreds of people in their class. If a professor has 200 students in a lecture class, it could be quite a long time before they get around to answering questions, perhaps a week or more. Professors with 20 to 40 students in their class probably have at least a 72-hour turnaround time. 4. Talking with the TA A great option for communication is talking with the TA (teaching assistant). College courses with 60 or more students have a teaching assistant to help out with grading assignments and student communication. Teaching assistants are Masters or Ph.D. students who are interested in either pursuing a career in teaching or the specific subfield of the course. As a result, they are a great resource and are happy to take the time to talk with students either in person or by email (READ: Irvine College Tutoring Tips: 5 Ways to Keep Social and Study Time Separate in College this Fall). 5. Office appointments When students have more complicated questions about assignments or projects, they are encouraged to set an office appointment to talk with the professor one-on-one. This will allow students the opportunity to get extra help and clear up confusing information. However, if they only have a simple question, its best just to ask it after class. Office appointments provide a valuable communication tool to students because it allows an opportunity for both student and professor to focus on one issue without the distraction of other students or an overwhelming class schedule. 6. Online communication systems Nearly every university level course will have an online communication system. They are called something different at each school, such as Blackboard, and allow students access to assignments, the syllabus, and FAQs. If students have a question about the basic information, they are encouraged to check the online communication forum where they can look for common answers or even connect with classmates, who can share pertinent information. Get Economics Homework Help with the Best Tutor

Get Economics Homework Help with the Best Tutor Every subject is unique and important in its own way. Students need to go through each subject with same dedication. Some subject will be very tough and they will fear to go and reach that subject and some subjects will be interesting to them. Whatever the subject be, students have to learn the subject so that it can create a good impact over them in their near future. All the subjects that the student goes through in the entire life are of great importance and so that is included in the syllabus of it.    All the mentioned services or facilities are available with TutorPace.   Economics Homework Help is also possible with the service. Teachers can help them to know the subject well and can also help in making the subject much easier so that students can know the subject by its roots. One such subject is economics. For me economics is a very interesting subject and it requires a bit of knowledge and intelligence to handle the subject. One you have gripped the subject very well, you can easily come across any topic of the subject as every topic is inter related. Economics is a subject that is related to social science that studies the behavior of individuals, households and organizations. The subject is very practical and deals with the day to day affairs of our lives. It is an interesting subject that can be studied in the long run. A good teacher helps to enhance the subject in lot more ways than possible. You can know about the subject with much depth and interest when you have a good teacher beside you who can be able to get into the skin of the subject and will also help you to know the subject pretty well. The private tutors are present who makes it a point to go through the subject and the chapters and help the students to know the subject well. But with professionalism everything has been upside down. Private tutors do not take it a chance to devote that much time to the students for their problems. They have fixed their timings with the students and so they make it a point to finish their possible work of teaching within that time only. Through this way the students learn partially and also act upon it less. The lowering of grades is a way through which you can know how the teacher teaches. We cannot access what private tutors teach and how they teach. We can only access the results of a student. Private tutors do not have to go through a big and a tough interview process and so the capability is not at all matched. This creates a problem for many students. But now parents do not have to worry as they have got something that is better and much practical as well. Have you heard about online tutoring service? French on the Go More Study Tips for Busy Students

French on the Go More Study Tips for Busy Students Madalyn Danielson There are always more ways to practice French in your daily life. Tutor  Darcy C.  shares how to study French as you go about your usual activities Learning any language is just plain easier when you’re surrounded by native speakers, and learning French is no different. Yet for those of us who cannot move to France at the moment, there are  other ways to bring France to us by making French part of our daily lives. Even if you don’t have  much time to spare between lessons, check out these tips to incorporate the language into your  life more frequently and regularlyâ€"you might be surprised at how simple this task can be! For the Reader If you are working on vocabulary, grammar, and reading, see if you can find a French translation  of one of your favorite children’s books. You know you’ll enjoy the story, and you won’t need to  reach for your dictionary as often; since you know what happens, you can guess the meanings  of some words, and silly translations such as “Poudlard” for “Hogwarts” make this exercise even  more enjoyable! Listen Up Most people find the biggest language-learning challenge to be understanding fast French  speakers. To acclimate your ears, give a French podcast a shot. If youre a newer speaker and  balk at the quick pace, simply try counting how many words you can identify in a period of  timeâ€"if you can increase the number day by day, you’ll know you’re improving. Plus, exposure  to the language will help you become accustomed to the sounds and cadences, even if you  can’t understand the words perfectly yet. Movie Night An easy way to transform movie night into practice time is to watch French films with English  subtitles. You can also apply the “old favorite” method here, to focus on the language more than  finding out what happens. An English movie with French dubs can also work, though some find  it challenging to understand the French when the actors’ lip movements are not corresponding. Make your movie night more exciting with a foreign film, and you’ll probably find a great new French movie while your ears get some practice. Use Technology to Your Advantage The easiest tip of all is to change the language settings on your computer and phone to French.  Doing so adds no extra time to your busy day, but regularly reminds you of the language all day  long. There’s even a setting for Google Chrome that translates just some parts of websites, so  you can ease your way into reading French translations! If you would prefer to spend a minute or two reading a regular daily reminder, you can sign up  for email subscriptions to learn a new phrase each day. Even better, visit practice websites like Duolingo.com, where you can spend a few minutes or a few hours practicing new vocabulary. It’s Okay to Be Low Tech If you know anyone abroad, or someone who can put you in touch, see if you can arrange a  phone call trade with a French speaker learning English: during the phone call, you both will  speak French for ten or fifteen minutes, then switch to English. That way, you both get practice,  plus you can learn a lot about life in France (or another Francophone country). I use FaceTime  Audio to keep in touch with a French phone-pal, and we never run out of things to talk  aboutâ€"differences in culture, colloquial phrases and jokes, politics, food, you name it! Find What Works for YOU! What’s most important is to find what works for you. In order to make practice a regular part of  your life, it’s crucial that you choose an activity that you have time for and will realistically enjoy.  Whether it’s some light reading, listening to a podcast or movie, a weekly phone date, practicing  online, or even just that French calendrier on your computer, you’ll be keeping the language-learning part of your brain active. What better way to improve and get the most out of your  lessons? Work with a French tutor online via Skype for more personal attention and help studying French. Find your French tutor now! A Student Perspective on Cornell University

A Student Perspective on Cornell University The tutors behind Varsity Tutors are not just here to teach theyre sharing their college experiences as well.Kelly received her Bachelors degree in Biological Engineering and her PhDfrom Cornell University. She is currently a tutor in New York City specializing in GRE Quantitative tutoring, Life Sciences tutoring, SAT Math tutoring, and several other subjects. See what she had to say about her experience at Cornell University: VT: Describe the campus setting and transportation options. How urban or safe is the campus? Are there buses or do you need a car/bike? Kelly: I went to college at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Ithaca is a small city in upstate New York, right on the Finger Lakes. The campus is beautiful, with lots of (big) hills overlooking Cayuga Lake. There are also many architecturally diverse buildings. You can get around campus on foot (I did!), but the buildings are pretty spread out. If you are in a rush, or the weather is bad (it gets cold there in the winter), I would definitely recommend taking a bus. Cars are good to have if you want to get away from campus for the weekend or you want to take a day trip to the local gorges, but having a car is not necessary. (To get home for breaks and holidays, I took a Greyhound bus to the New York City area). Bikes are a great alternative, but be prepared to get a great leg workout it is hilly here! Even though the campus is pretty large, it has a small town feel to it, so I always felt extremely safe walking around. VT: How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants? Kelly:I was an Engineering major, and during my first two years, I took a lot of large, lower-level science and math courses. We had recitation sections that met once per week that were led by graduate students whose job it was to review the material covered in class. Both the professors and graduate students held their own office hours and practically begged us to come, even if it was just to say hello they wanted company while sitting in their offices for two hours. The professors were all incredibly intelligent (and therefore, a bit intimidating), but they all encouraged us to get help if we were confused. My academic adviser was great he hired me as a teaching assistant for an upper-level Engineering class and encouraged me to pursue independent study. VT: How would you describe the dorm life rooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students? Kelly:You always hear horror stories about the food at dining halls, but I can tell you that the food on campus was always very good. There was such a wide variety Mongolian grill, pizza, pasta, salads, soups, etc. And, of course, I always helped myself to some ice cream made right at the Cornell Dairy Bar. There are dining halls near the dormitories, as well as a few on campus for you to grab some food in-between classes. Dorms are both hall-style and suite-style, so there are plenty of opportunities to socialize and meet new people. VT: Which majors/programs are best represented and supported? What did you study and why? Did the university do a good job supporting your particular area of study? Kelly:I was a Biological Engineering major, which meant that I took both basic Biology courses (such as Genetics and Biochemistry) and Engineering courses (such as Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics). The Engineering programs at Cornell University are all very strong, so when signing up for an Engineering course, you know it is going to be challenging. The general attitude with the students was, We are all in this together, so if we work together, it will be much easier. Unlike in other majors (such as Biology), there was almost no competition between students, which helped my grades and helped me make new friends. VT: How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Kelly:As a freshman, your first friends are generally those who live near you in the dorm and in your major. Greek life is pretty popular, but you have to wait until second semester of your freshman year to rush. I was not part of Greek life, and I did not feel like I was missing out on anything. VT: How helpful is the Career Centerand other student support services?Do many reputable companies recruit on campus? Kelly:To be honest, I did not use the Career Center or go to job fairs because I knew I was going to go to graduate school. I did have friends who went to job fairs and met some great contacts. VT: How are the various study areas such aslibraries, the student union, and dorm lounges? Are they over-crowded, easily available, spacious? Kelly:During finals time, the running joke is that the library is more to socialize than to study. I did a lot of my work in computer labs, in my room, and in the library (during non-finals weeks). During finals week, I went to the Ithaca city library, which is huge and recently remodeled. It also gave me a good change of scenery to break up the monotony of studying on campus. VT: Describe the surrounding town. What kinds of outside establishments / things to do are there that make it fun, boring, or somewhere in between? To what extent do students go to the downtown area of the city versus staying near campus? Kelly:The area immediately surrounding campus is called Collegetown (not terribly creative, I know). It is filled with cafes, coffee shops, and restaurants. A 10-minute drive down the hill takes you to downtown Ithaca, which is a moderately-sized city with some great outdoor activities (hiking, mountain biking, trail running, skiing, etc.), as well as some decent shopping (used book stores, local art, small boutiques). There are a number of malls and strip malls with big stores such as Barnes Noble, Home Depot, Target, Wegmans, etc. Also, the Finger Lakes region is known for its wineries, so if you are of age, you can do wine tasting tours along the lakes. Ithaca is pretty isolated in upstate New York, but there are a lot of activities to do within a 15-minute drive. VT: How big or small is the student body? Were you generally pleased or displeased with the typical class sizes? Kelly:Cornell University is a fairly large institution, with over 20,000 students. It has over 12,000 students at the Ithaca campus, as well as campuses in New York City and Qatar. Even though it is pretty big, it does not feel that big. I found that you see the same people when you are walking to your classes, you sit next to the same people in class, you see the same faces in the dining halls, etc. Introductory class sizes were admittedly large, with anywhere from 100-300 people in a large lecture hall. However, there are recitation sections that meet at least once per week, and these have about 20 students in them. Also, once you got past the introductory courses, class size shrunk dramatically. It was not uncommon for upper-level classes to have less than 20 students. VT: Describe one memorable experience with a professor and/or class. Perhaps one you loved the most or one youregretthe most. Kelly:During my junior year, I took an elective, mostly because I heard it would be an easy A. However, what I did not bargain for was that I would really enjoy the class! It was a class about Native American culture, and it was fascinating. The professor was passionate and an honorary member of a local tribe from upstate New York. To this day, I remember sitting in that auditorium being blown away by the professors lecture. Check out Kellys tutoring profile. The views expressed in this article do not necessarily represent the views of Varsity Tutors.
